Kommentar
Overshadowed by the monumental architecture, the superb sculpture, and the fine bronzes of the Khmer civilization, Khmer ceramic ware received scant attention until recently; and even now they are probably the least well known of the ceramics of South-East Asia. The Kamratan Collection is one of the few private collections of Khmer wares in Asia, and is one of the finest collections in the world. 138 pieces of this collection are illustrated in this book, which is derived from the catalog published by the Toyama Museum of Fine Art where the collection was exhibited in 1989. Including a note by Hiroshi Fujiwara on how he developed his collection, and an Introduction by Dawn F. Ribey, which examines the types, technology, characteristics, and shapes of Khmer wares, Khmer Ceramics from the Kamratan Collection provides a complete overview of ceramics created between the 9th and 13th centuries.
